Plant-based food hub Saluhall opens in San Francisco
Ingka Centres, which operates Ikea stores worldwide, opened its latest venture in San Francisco: a food fall featuring plant-based foods.
Saluhall had its grand opening last Thursday with city leaders, including Mayor London Breed and District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey, who got a tour of the two-story, 450-seat capacity food hall that includes a space for cooking classes.
“We opened Ikea, we opened the coworking space and now the thing that brings all of it together, food and drinks — opportunities to come together to socialize in the mid-Market area,” Breed said before the grand opening.
The 23,000-square-foot space features 11 food vendors. The first floor features the businesses from Saluhall, including an in-house bakery and restaurant, a burger bar and a business serving soft serve. The space has communal tables throughout the two-story food hall and tables for a group of four.
Here are the following food vendors located on the first floor:
- Smörgåsland (bakery/restaurant)
- Burgare Bar (plant-based burgers, fries)
- Snöberg (soft serve)
- Lagom Bar (alcoholic drinks)
Five Bay Area businesses are located on the second floor, including:
- Curry Up Now
- Casa Borinqueña
- MOMO Noodle
- La Venganza
- KAYMA
Two bars, Punsch and Sauna, are on the second floor with Sauna having a more intimate space away from the hustle and bustle of the food hall.
Not all businesses are completely plant-based as customers can still head to places like MOMO for noodles and Curry Up Now for their Chicken Tikka Melsa burrito or rice bowl.
The hours vary with the first floor opening between Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., while the second floor opens from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the same days. On the Saluhall website, the food hall will open seven days a week beginning May 6. The public can find Saluhall at 945 Market St.
